WELCOME NOVEMBER!

on November 11, 2019

October was quite a productive month in our classroom, and we have settled into a rhythm for the year. With all of the movement to and from different teachers for English language arts, social studies, and science, we cling to the precious minutes we have each day in morning meeting to help us sustain a sense of community

This past week, I enjoyed meeting with some of you in advance of our scheduled parent/teacher conference day this Wednesday, November 13. Those with appointments on Wednesday have likely received reminder emails; if not, expect your reminder tomorrow or Tuesday. Conferences are 20 minutes in length, though another appointment can be scheduled if need be.

Meanwhile, some highlights for the month of October include:

► The week of October 21-25 was STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) month in Burlington. Fox Hill fifth graders were treated to a special presentation by the high school instructional specialist, LeRoy Wong. Mr. Wong and some of his “help desk” students demonstrated how to code a drone using the app Tynker. Students were then able to install the app on their own iPad and do their own coding.

► Mr. Musselman and Miss Pavlicek, Burlington Science Center staff, facilitated an all-school assembly on the science of light. They investigated light’s properties and how it behaves, several forms of energy, and how humans and animals use light to communicate. This show combined big stage demonstrations with science content. These included a laser, glass beads/prisms, theatre stage lights, UV light, and even a live owl!

While I love keeping you informed through this blog, I will always favor a more personal communication style. So, feel free to connect with me by phone (781.238.5684) or via e-mail (jaffe@bpsk12.org). Face-to-face meetings are always appreciated, as well. In the meantime, check out the pages of this blog to learn more about what your child accomplished last month.

Regards,

Mrs. Jaffe
